had no idea mini horses were used as service animals as well, how cool! i wonder if they attract more kids who try to touch them though

At least they make a distinction between actual service animals and everyone’s goddamn dogs licking everything and peeing on everything in stores. I’m so sick of this dogs everywhere era we’re in. If your dog can’t handle being alone in your house while you go out shopping, then you shouldn’t have dogs. And get off my lawn while you’re at it!

    3. In the US, the only legal species for service animals were originally dogs and miniature horses, though apparently as of 2011 it was limited to only dogs, at least for some purposes.

Service animals are allowed anywhere, thats not novel.

If its the mini horses thing that got you, yes mini horses are trained to help the blind or people with stability problems. They are stronger than dogs, live longer, and are naturally more unbothered (which is funny given how regular horses are bothered by everything)

    5. I’ll never understand why people feel the need to bring their pets to stores with them in general. If it’s not a service animal leave them at home.

Try being in the middle of a board of directors meeting for a small clinic and having to explain to the BOD that mini horses are ADA compliant as service animals, and after all of the ‘huh’ and ‘really,’ you have to tell them to go talk to a lawyer to verify.

I still don’t think they believe it, even though it is now in the clinic’s policies.

All stores have to accept service animals(emotional support animals don’t count) in the store. It is nice that this store makes it clear that service animals are allowed with big poster

Is there like one those “you need to be this tall to ride” signs? To measure the height of your mini-horse before you enter. Who’s to say my mini-horse is not just big boned?

There are places that ban cats as service animals. Which makes sense, cats are practically untrainable

    10. I would stop shopping there if they didn’t like my little dog riding in the basket. He’s cleaner than their poop diaper messy fingered brats.

    11. I’ve known miniature horses have been recognized service animals for a while now but how common are they? Really thought I would have seen one in person by now.

Then again I can’t imagine how more or less they get bothered compared to all the people who distract and wanna pet service dogs doing their job.. Don’t know if my anxiety could handle that.

In the US there are only two types of animals that can legally be considered service animals, and those are dogs and mini horses.

    13. I’ve never heard of mini horses being service animals and now I feel robbed of experiencing such joy in public

I believe minuture horses used to be listed in the Americans with Disabilities Act but were removed in recent years

      * for those downvoting me see the link below which states they aren’t recognized as of march 15 2011

They are allowed by law. So they are just complying with what they have to do, not going above and beyond.

If this is the United States, the ADA says that they legally have to allow licensed service animals. This does not include “emotional support animals.”

yup- i work for a resort & all service dogs/ mini horses are allowed

we have a very strict NO cat policy though.

Is the interesting part supposed to be a grocery store actually knowing the law for the first time in human history? If so, I agree.

    19. Well yeah this is standard if the animal is a legit a service animal. As it’s the disabled persons legal right
